oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] he he [Music] oh [Music] good morning good afternoon and good evening wherever you are thank you for joining at ciq we're focused on powering the next generation of software infrastructure leveraging the capabilities of cloud hyperscale and HPC from research to the interprise our customers rely on us for the ultimate Rocky Linux werewolf and aper support escalation we provide deep development capabilities and solutions all delivered in the collaborative Spirit of Open Source welcome everyone busy busy day busy day how's everybody good good rose very good sir very good thank you thank you very much I'm so excited today Zane so excited you

guys I know we're going to be talking about some cool things we're GNA be talking about Google next and cloud and Rocky and all kinds of amazing things but I have been announcing every single week for it feels like an eternity that we are giving away a backpack once we hit 1,000 subscribers and we did it you help us do it so you get to win a backpack okay this is I don't you know this is spontaneous I should have thought about a song earlier and really had something more prepared for you but you guys this is very very exciting so we're g to come

in here and we're going to do a little present we're gon to share a little screen we're going to share screen and we're going to do it's going to be called what is it called Zan it's called the car heart backpack so the car hard backpack absolutely there we go perfect I'm going to share that so we have this you know it's so amazing I mean AI really is cool and we're going to get more into that and all the cool things that we saw at Google next and like just the AI Madness that is going on out there which is so cool and how

ciq supports that um but we used like a little I mean I consider this a little AI tool right this like jiga calculator right a random name picker so we put all the names of the people that qualified to be sorry ciq employ no CQ no you did not make the cut sorry you did not make the cut so we put all of them in this random name picker and I clicked the little button and we have a winner we have a winner of the rocky Linux carart backpack as of today Mr Richard Alaway congratulations congratulations oh I don't have my thing set up to

actually do sound sorry wait okay behind the scenes person can we do a sound oh there we go there you go got it good not a boy that's amazing that's amazing all right let's stop the screen share right now so that is very exciting I don't need to announce it anymore someone's getting that backpack it's Mr Richard Alay so how are we going to get a hold of him I believe they will reach out probably through YouTube uh that's where the the actual Links come from so it'll probably reach out to you watch watch for them someone from ciq we'll reach out and get your

information we'll send it to you I want that backpack thanks for watching you wanted that backpack I know Dave did too but Dave didn't win it sorry Dave oh that's awesome so for one of you it's Barry I don't remember if you've been on before time to introduce yourself to everybody not I've not been on this channel it's time tell us who you are barry hi I'm Barry Russell I join ciq uh back in early October and um I have the privilege of looking after uh the go to market that we do um and and helping with that on cloud um so I'm super excited

to be here and thanks for having me Barry are you still recovering from last week I'm not you know uh Rose uh I can I'm probably the only one that can make a claim I had not a single drop of alcohol the entire but it's it sounds part of that may been because I was sick um and so I was I was nursing that but um uh and you know also helping Zayn as I always am uh you know right absolutely thank you Barry that's awesome Dave it's been a while can't hear you oh we're gonna skip youve I was gonna save Colin for last

but I guess Colin you're not gonna go last this time sorry you GNA wait okay how about now it's moving no can't hear you yeah how about now it's always the headphones always it was mine last time Dave there well maybe yeah yeah there we are there we are there's so I since the last time I was on I got a new microphone and there are now three options there's a virtual There's an actual and then there's something else and I didn't realize it was on the non-actual here we go just need the boom mic I i' I've got it I've got the there's just

too many options there too many options I'm sorry was the question it's been a while you have to introduce your yes uh so Dave Dickerson I I do all of our uh Channel partnership stuff over here technology Partnerships work with our our isv partners um so all the all the fun things with uh with Partners here at ciq thank you Dave all right now Colin now you can start talking oh all Cloud stuff man uh no last week I'm still riding a high from Vegas and seeing all of you and all of our friends last week that was awesome um so first thing I mean

it was the first time that Google next has been hosted in Las Vegas uh largely due to capacity I mean that was they kind of blew the doors off that was 35,000 people it certainly felt like more I don't know about y'all I mean what did y'all think it felt like more being where it was and having to walk down that incredibly Long Hall for an hour to get to when when things got out I sat with a friend to get some uh some dinner uh an early dinner you know like at like 4:00 as like the thing ended and we finished dinner and there

was still a stream of people like a full stream of people leaving so we ate a whole meal right that's how many people were still walking out at four o'clock so they stuck around the whole time you know all four days which is kind of incredible um no I think there there's so many highlights I mean to be honest I mean z why don't you start first from like I mean in Rose from just the customers I mean how incredible was that right right we had a lot of people come by a lot of people that we didn't know were using Rocky or using Rocky

so that was exciting to see um we had had a gentleman show up as they closed on the last day literally trying to run us off we sat there for another hour hour and a half talking to him and security kept coming by telling us to leave finally they made us leave but it great interaction great questions uh he got very very in the weed so it was fun bar we missed you on that one we could have used some some Colonel help sorry yeah I mean there was just there's so many good conversations you know um so on our side I'll cover kind of

just the what happened what do we do at next what were we doing there um we got a lot of fun things to share so I'll hit the kind of the basics so one it was kind of the two-year anniversary of our partnership with Google so two years ago uh we entered an agreement with Google to provide a worldclass experience for Rocky Linux everywhere what does that mean well we provide essentially performant images of Rocky Linux across their compute stack that customers can freely use uh that are rarely available for all instance types and it turns out as we found out last week there's a

lot of people using that like that's where they start and that's where they get going and um usage for that has been absolutely through the roof um from there we announced a new HPC toolkit um which we also found out through a live session that some very big customers are using for Aerospace automotive and Healthcare uh simulation and design which is incredible right so like I don't think there's a more rewarding feeling than putting something out there having it grow to scale and finding out people are using that tremendously you know in some pretty significant ways um naturally we've got a lot of our Solutions

on Marketplace so uh you know we definitely double down on a lot of those discussions with customers so they can use their commits uh to then buy uh our optimized and performance tune images uh which are available in marketplace with support uh as well as uh I mean I guess from the crowd I mean there was a lot of Cent West discussion still which is still funny that people don't know that we're like 70 days from end of life and you're G to end up in a bad spot I mean how many times did that come up for for y'all last week way too many

talking how many it was really surprising not small Footprints one of them had 160,000 sentos devices they had no idea I have X amount of servers running software that's DOA pretty soon right like that's incredible um two and a half months man two and a half months is all you have left yeah and then you know the the big announcement so first I mean I want to congratulate the entire uh Google public sector and Google distributed Cloud team for achieving their ATO for secret and top secret clearance um that's a huge achievement um with that we also jointly announced and there's PRS out there that

you yall can find uh about us providing our solutions for that uh because we have a lot of customers in regulated Industries uh we're kind of big in public sector and and federal DOD and now they can use GDC as kind of that Landing Zone with uh kind of the most performant and secure infrastructure on the planet and uh kind of back to what Rose said it genuinely is built from an infrastructure perspective infra up uh to generally run AI anywhere and so that's going to be kind of exciting for a lot of good reasons because we're going to be supporting uh a lot of

the infrastructure side of that and seeing some pretty big workloads and Integrations for AI come through on that side as well across whatever indust retail Automotive Etc um you know Barry you probably had a lot of those discussions too on the go to market side I mean there's some big things happening there that we heard about last week yeah for sure um the big thing that theme that came out for me well generative AI of course um uh as a uh as an innovation and Technology wave is front and center um conversations that we had with a lot of the Google field uh and partner

teams and even Google's partner ERS uh was around cloud cloud optimization um and not only tuning the infrastructure um uh and uh paths uh to to run well and the software running on top of all of that but also finding areas where customers can rapidly immediately uh save money because the theme was they're all struggling uh to find those extra dollars particularly in this economy uh to put towards uh experimenting and exploring things like generative AI um so I think cloud optimization is going to be a theme for the rest of the year that uh is going to help drive a lot of the work

that we do absolutely Dave I know there were Partners there we're talking about from an integration standpoint as well who El did you talk to uh who did we not talk to um so uh we we had conversations uh with the um with our current partners that we've been working with for a little bit now on some deals like TD synx and and wwt um we had conversations with some new partners that we're we're excited to find some opportunities to help them solve their customer problems in s and do it now uh I'm sorry do it uh International uh as well as uh who else

koft and CDW so a lot of a lot of great things there but then also from a um from an isv standpoint talking to um Anis and and all there like those were those were all great conversations for us to have and and everybody trying to figure out how to get that stack to be a little bit more performant was was top of mind um second being being cost well or first being cost second being performant depending on what the customer's goal is but at the end of the day dollar per performance is always big so I need to follow up with you too Dave

we had a customer ask questions about some of that this morning so haven't had a chance to catch up we'll have to you later this afternoon so appreci sounds like a plan Rose I know you had a lot of fun minus the carrying stuff back and forth other than that that actually was fun because I made you carry most of it so not me everybody else Justin it was a huge team effort of Justin yes it was a team effort oh my gosh you I know this is like super silly and not like necessarily on point but man that hallway it was like it was

like half a mile just to get from the elevator down the hall way to my room it was hilarious and we were like all these boxes of t-shirts and hats and swag and like computers and all that kind of stuff because when you go to a conference you know especially like this it is supposed to be fun right I mean like there's so much work that goes on behind the scenes and there's so much kind of by ourselves at our computer and the engineering work and I mean we're talking about an operating system right like this isn't typically right something that gets a lot of

airspace and so it's really nice I mean obviously we're more you know kind of on the business development and sales side of things and kind of you know bringing to life and having conversations but really we are highlighting the work that the rocky Community has been doing we're highlighting the work that the engineers at ciq have been doing like behind the scenes so you guys and gals thank you like thank you for all of this incredible work that you're doing that really provides the foundation like the layers and levels like I was trying to explain it to my dad and it's not like I even

really understand it he definitely doesn't understand it like he just got a new phone the other day he's like I don't even know how to turn this thing on you know like he's just a completely different generation like never got into computers whatsoever on any level so I was trying I was like well all right Dad like you get that there's Hardware right he's like yeah yeah yeah all right there's like you know the little chip and you got the box I'm like and then like somehow that has to talk right to the software and like all the way up to where you can actually

see a picture on your phone like there's layers and levels to it and so I was kind of explaining like that like what we do is very lowlevel and um he was like that actually makes sense I'm like cool man I feel like you know I taught you something so all of this work that we're doing at like the kernel level and the operating system level and then optimizing it for different environments specifically our customers we're talking about right now that are running on you know in Google Cloud that kind of that idea of optimization I thought was kind of cool because of course I

feel like I just don't know anything so I'm always like listening to all the words that people are saying and one of the descriptions I think Barry it was you was describing when someone came and asked you about what does it mean to be optimized on Google Cloud um and correct Me Maybe the words are a little bit off but you said something to the effect of well you don't need all of the packages that maybe come from in in Rocky right like if you just go to the RF and download it like you don't maybe don't need all of those for your environment so

for your operating system for Rocky Linux to be optimized for your use case you probably want it slimm down and then it will be faster and quicker and better for your environment is that accurate yeah it is I mean there were two parts I know the conversation you're referring to uh there were two parts to it one was you know what are you doing on Google um which you know Colin was starting to to talk about in terms of not only providing um uh a version of of Rocky Linux but also being able to the customer wanted to know can you tune for a specific

use case uh let's say I'm an auto manufacturer and I'm I'm doing um some type of virtualized design testing on my newest electric car um the short answer is yes you know can you tune overall for you know a larger patch of workloads that I'm running based on the type of instance I choose which might have a very specific type of Chip associated with it and the short answer is yes and then the third part is they asked about um containers Zan I think you were actually part of that uh conversation because I think I grabbed you by the by the the shirt sleeve the

customer wanted to know because their current uh version of of what they're running which is not Rocky um or Centos um really slows down the um applications that are containerized as they talk to each other and there's also a security issue um because for each container they deploy they have to then I'm going to use the wrong word but they have to reappropriate security permissions and Zane I think we were talking about how we take a completely different approach uh to what we put inside of a container for performance and for security posture yes yeah that that one was interesting because that went a couple

different ways even from being containerized so doing a traditional Docker style container verse that used case was a little interesting in that there is a way to kind of make it better with obtainer which is not a typical Enterprise conversation that we have it's very HBC specific but being able to take a a very Legacy workload and put it into an obtainer and kind of strip out some of the stuff that is causing them security issues so that was a that was a very fun and one-off conversation that we don't get a lot but it's a great use case that a lot of people don't

even know we can do but we absolutely can yeah and then ironically later Rose I think um it was the same day or next morning someone came by to yet again ask about uh containerization of their applications and described a similar problem where some of the bloat they're getting from other Linux Distribution Systems are causing issues with their containerization deployment and strategy um and then we walked them through zann what um you know the approach we we take and and how we reduce uh almost all blo um so that the containerization certainly the apps that are in there talking to each other are are as

performant as they should be absolutely and then being able to build custom container images as needed so I mean it's something else we can help you with yeah well that's that's a big part of what we do right I mean that's as as as a infrastructure provider I just got to say rose as far as like what's called The OSI model um open systems uh interconnect there's seven layers I think you just gave the best explanation of that in relation to your dad that I've ever heard like that was amazing say he took computer science 101 yeah got it like the hardware and then the

operating system and the application and the photo on your phone I'm like yes that that's basically it the Basic G yeah I mean it was actually Greg our CEO who who he's like rose it's like Legos you remember Legos I'm like yeah he's like layers Rose layers I'm like that is fantastic okay I okay I get it now so the the team obviously I gota I gotta thank everyone uh caq both here and uh that that W to attend and everyone that's contributed because we just had such an amazing week I mean uh there's a a blog post from Google that says there was something

like 218 major announcements and we can tangibly look at that list and point at things that we've co-built with Google and say we did that together and that's pretty incredible as a as a series a startup and something to be very very proud of um and there's going to be a lot more things ahead so um you know we we're going to be focusing on accelerating Cloud migrations uh both for applications that are already on Google cloud and moving to Google Cloud uh we're going to be focusing obviously as we've been talking about containers and everything else on optimization and making speeds and feeds uh

much faster and easier to achieve um you know Barry you could probably touch on some of the verticalization of some of the things we're going to do too right I mean yeah I that seems like a real obvious one that's coming soon it's yeah it's I mean I think everyone's aware that you know um companies like Google uh Google Cloud have switched to um industry outcome based sales motion uh and focus you know where customers get a stack of a solution uh and we're going to be part of that solution whether it's life sciences or manufacturing or Aerospace um Financial Services uh uh for sure

uh and then there's generalized um Enterprise customer segment and digital native startups that are building on Google Cloud um Can can all can all take advantage of those and coling you're right it's all focused on performance um with Cloud optimization um so the customer you know to you know to to use a phrase that a lot of people have used they get the best bang for their buck so to speak um they're getting the most out of every dollar of compute that they're running using uh uh Rocky Linux um with ciq um so I'm I'm super excited to be working with the the partner teams

and Dave and folks like Sada um to to get moving on uh deploying those use cases oh big time what was funny to me and maybe this resonates with some of the other discussions we had uh both in meetings and with customers and at the booth but um Performance Tuning uh ends up meaning a lot of things to people right where it's not just time reduction it's not just that it's like Network speeds what compute layer are they on what family are they using what version of that um we also announced the new uh day one availability for C4 and N4 uh last week being

the new fourth generations of both of those families which are pretty dominant in terms of customer usage and I heard customers still running on n1s like things that have been around for quite a long time and they could get a performance boost just from doing that and we can help them you know get that get that part started too but it was interesting to hear how not even a massive increase in performance but it depending on the size of the fleet and then the scale at which they operate whether they have really Peak uh demands or not and big valleys and and Peaks um that

same story was resonant for me in every industry that I spoke with uh pretty much every U major AI uh partner and Company I spoke to because of how fast they're scaling up and down based on sessions and users uh and it's all essentially you know in the name of making their Cloud costs like you said Barry more performant more efficient and then maximize their spend and it's and again to what Rose was getting at at the OSI layer everything crosses the operating system right so it's kind of interesting to see how influential that can be in terms of what the overall bill is at

the end of the month or the end of the year I was talking to a uh customer or potential customer in India this morning and we were talking about adoption and the growth of Rocky and we show the Apple chart Colin I know you get a report yeah ever so often on how many vcpus have been deployed of Rocky Linux in Google and I don't know where we are today but can you give me an idea um I can say so uh I can give percentages so I'll say not just specific to Google but I say holistically uh so 23 2022 was a very big

year that was a roughly a 10,000% growth year because that's kind of where things kind of kicked off and started and then last year what we're allowed to say publicly was we had well over 500% growth and so what we're seeing on the rocky curb which is very very Steep and it's gone up even more I don't know if you saw the one last month that came out like a week ago yes um it's mirroring what we see in the cloud um and that's that's never been more true doesn't matter where you're looking that's happening and I think for a lot of good reasons obviously

sent to West but I think most of it is the value prop um of being able to get the the most out of your your compute spend and environment spend um it's been fantastic to watch though you know because it's like that's what we do we build things that scale and Cloud provides that for us I it's been interesting to watch the Apple chart and trying to explain that to people of what that actually means uh if you look at it it's systems that are at least a week old that have checked in after two weeks so it's a minimum live time of at least

three weeks so longer running things and that chart has gone through the roof we know people who are deploying anywhere from one to three million VMS a day in some of these Cloud providers and it doesn't take into account any of those those are not even the ones that are checking in so if you could actually see the short-lived several hour workloads that chart would look entirely different it would be well I think when so you see the chart and you're like wow but then you go to a Google Cloud conference and then you meet the customer customers that then tell you yes I have

X tens of thousands of VMS that are moving right now or I've already moved I'm already a customer I'm already using this and then it puts a different feel on it right like you can you can see it you can understand it and they tell you their use case and you're like that's amazing like how can we help right and so I think um we're very much in a 10x growth mode this is a one of those hyperscale situations that are very uncommon um and it's crazy to see that it's Crossing so so many different Industries and verticals I mean we saw customers of all

different sizes uh Dave you probably saw a bunch of partners that you know we didn't know that they were actually using any of our stuff like no I mean it comes up it comes up frequently as a um oh no we're we're already using this and you know what are what are you guys doing that that stands apart and then when we tell the story of CQ and specifically what we built for Google um it tends to raise some eyebrows and ask some questions or what what else can be done um because I think the world is so used to uh this peanut butter approach

um for operating systems you know kind of a one-size fits all doesn't have to be that way um and we're we're proving it right in front of everybody and making it available for anybody to go and use in gcp well and someone asked me too they're like so how do you do that and I was like all right well we've got you know here's kind of the one-size fits-all right so you know what you're going to get maximum compatibility start testing there make sure things work etc then you've got kind of this middle layer which we provide essentially for free through Google as kind of

cloud optimized what does that mean we package in the compute drivers and the network drivers so you know that you're getting a highly performant image that's tuned specifically to gcp compute structures and it's going to work and you're going to get you know an acceptable boot time you're acceptable performance and you know that it's always maintained and updated then you've got what we do over here which is like you're getting a Porsche GT E3 here and here I'm giving you an F1 race car if you want it or we're going to give you super secure performance with along with that we're going to build you

a tank or something right and and that's the big differentiator because that's not common in our industry and we do it for a price point that's affordable at the scale of the size of the customer across each of the industries and so from there I think what'll happen next and you know Zane I think as we go further in the stack with things like a sender um and other things that are ahead I think it's going to get real interesting really fast to see kind of that adoption follow what we've created in this Title Wave uh with our Rocky Linux Solutions right absolutely absolutely so

I believe we actually have a recap video I'm not mistaken oh I like that we do I want to throw that up [Music] much here at Google next along with 40,000 of our closest friends with 40,000 of our funds and we are in the most wild place on Earth Las Vegas Nevada Las Vegas Nevada [Music] yeah fantastic that was fun makes me exhausted all over again say does anybody need a na eat her yes how many steps did everybody do did y'all look yeah 15,000 every day every day I did not but I'm going to now I stopped looking at miles after Wednesday when I

left my backpack at our happy hour event that we had and I had to walk there and back I hit 15.8 miles that day that day yeah that day it was not no it was not nice my feet are still hurting from that one yeah but you even walked more the next day because didn't you like walk to the ARA and then back later that night even further oh man I saw a friend um me and Barry's friend Darren he posted 100,000 steps in 52 miles or something like that's got to be some type of record if you go to these conferences don't wear brand

new shoes wear company see this is an issue because I bought shoes knowing that I was going to want like yes you did so I did but you're right so the the problem was that they were brand new but they were specifically meant for like comfortable standing and walking for a really long I'm expensing them Zan I'm putting them on my expense C for that oh that's Colin's problem not mine Colin all right just kidding I'm sending you a bill calling said okay we do have a question we got a question let you take this one boy question art okay well I'm gonna Wrangle uh

my friend in green here uh into this eventually so um we'll talk about I'll just focus on geni um uh for now um I think there's been a lot of hype and noise about it um it frankly it reminds me of the early days of cloud when there were a group of naysayers who said um it's not real it won't catch on it's a fad um I do think this is the next wave of uh technology I also think customers and partners are testing still figuring out uh where and how they can use it um Colin I also think that AI has been used for

a lot longer than the headlines um would indicate for years and years I know Google of course has been using it for a very long time um you know particularly in their search tools um that you know I know I use um uh every day what what I'd say we learned or at least what I learned um at the conference is that um a traditional HB HBC which um was on Prem when it when it moves to Cloud that term um isn't used as much it's kind of broken up um into discrete outcomes uh that the customer wants to use based on the data that

they have based on the AI model um that they're running in then any applications uh that might be um attached to it and so it's very different to depending on if you're a consumer packaged goods company versus an airplan airplane manufacturer defense contractor or whatnot um uh it was super exciting to hear and watch um uh the keynote uh and all of the announcements around Ai and generative AI capabilities that um Google is doing I think what we heard from our partners there was um that they're actively looking to help customers build generative AI applications faster um but goes all the way back to optimizing

um the instances and Cloud infrastructure that they're running on Colin I don't know if you had a different take no no not at all I mean I think there one there was a lot of gen Partners there uh walking around on the booth floor uh a lot of them um and so when they you know State like we've got you know we're a hooted for Gen Innovation and development I genuinely saw that like there was a lot of them there um second on kind of Google's own kind of philosophy and focus um you know there's going to be integration points everywhere um Google me actually

started as a developer conference and so I think if you look at the uh developer keynote which was on Wednesday with Richard serer uh and a friend of mine Casten fields and a bunch of others um they actually walk through uh coding support uh for Gen and actually doing what what I what we would have called you know a couple years ago right very Predictive Analytics yeah and then using that to actually write down code um you know I'm not saying and I don't think anyone would agree with that that like changes the the role of a developer or programmer I think that it actually

makes everyone more efficient and more effective and gets things done faster uh which I think that's where I think a lot of that focus is going to start and then that's going to lead to applications and use cases power Enterprise power security power networking and then in turn lead to not just a work force and uh productive uh enhancements but hopefully also you know humanitarian type things as well yeah and so I think there's going to be some really cool things there and that's where I look at more of less from like the data center up or the infrastructure up but then from like what

are we going to use these things for how are we going to apply AI in ways that you know generally have solid benefits you know where where we operate and I think we're in a fortunate position at ciq because we're essentially providing a lot of the Baseline for a lot of that based on what we do in performance and security and so um it's going to be exciting uh year for us with Google cloud in uh in everyone uh to try and drive a lot of that stuff forward and kind of power the things that people want to use these Technologies for yeah what's that

I did have one really cool AI use case I've talked to this guy a couple times at two different C C2C events and then he came by the booth um and he started a company or founded a company from an AI perspective that will take your voice will learn your voice and then it will translate into different languages still using your voice is spectacular it's amazing and they have I think there were 99 different languages the UN actually uses them for that so it does I think real time they can do like a 98% accuracy but they can do up to 100% accuracy where your

language you talk it will translate into it's fantastic it is a really really cool use case something that I would have never thought of but I mean I don't actually like that I'd prefer to sound like a British man it will make you sound like that all right our next webinar is going interational guys we get a zo plugin there you go oh I wish Dave how many times have we sat on that one specific one and needed to be able to yeah absolutely I wish I could used that in Italy yes that been great so I that was my favorite or one of my

favorite AI use cases that I just would have never thought of being able to do realtime translation in your own voice for the UN it's very cool yeah what was everyone's favorite moments from last week I mean that was there's a lot crammed into a couple of days right I I forget the booth and shame on me for forgetting but there was one booth where they were you could go up and and kick a a soccer ball um and shoot shoot uh uh shoot in to score and it would analyze and say what your likelihood where what your likelihood is to score against different levels

of uh professional goalkeepers um to see if you could have scored against them or not based on your speed and where you hit and all these different pieces that was that was super cool it was more analytics than AI but I thought that was just a neat way to to show off analytics that is really cool Rose Chuck it's got to be Chuck man you know I I have just been telling this story so we were hanging out at the booth and you know we kind of mentioned this a little bit even though like you know our our relationship and our partnership with uh Google

cloud and Google has been for a couple of years now it is only very recently that we have the optimized images up on Google cloud in the marketplace which is super exciting and you know how many people were coming by that just were still running Centos and not really sure what they're going to do and hadn't really even heard of Rocky I mean which kind of makes sense right like a lot of us are kind of heads down just doing what we need to do and unless something kind of slaps us in the face face I mean the whole idea of like centus going end

of life was a shocker to everybody right it's not something that you're like looking for I mean of course now people are right they're like what's going on with my operating system so we were hanging out at the booth and there was just a couple people walking by and you know I mean it's a conference so we're all having a good time and there was a couple gentlemen you know walking just past the booth didn't even really you know take a look at us and you know we can see our name tags I actually have my name tag here so it's kind of large right

you can see my name my name is pretty big and I saw his name was Chuck I was like Chuck what's going on man how's your life you know just making conversation he oh thank you Rose you know we could see each other's names and so we any we ended up chatting about you know what are you doing what are you doing for work and turns out he had several hundred machines still on sentos hadn't decided where they were going to go not really sure of the Rocky story and where Rocky came from and that it's quite frankly in my humble opinion of course like

the natural successor to sentos for many reasons and he just was very inspired by that story of how it happened and our CEO Greg kurtzer kind of being one of the you know original contributors to sentos 20s something years ago and just the whole progression of life and the ups and downs and things that happen and how rocky came about was that you know some people actually asked him they're like Greg you've done this before can you do it again like help us like how many thousands and millions of machines are running sentos right now like we need some wiggle room here um you know

and just the name of Rocky as well you know Rocky Mah being one of the guys who was also an original contributor to sentos and him not being with us anymore so it's kind of in honor of him like I mean it is it's a great story and it's nice to have this open Source community that is you know Rocky Linux totally Community Driven Enterprise Linux option and you know for for people um so yeah and he was just like wide-eyed you know what I mean like you're solving a problem like a big problem that I have and like that's just probably what is the

freaking coolest thing about what it is that we do is that we are solving real life problems for people in real time and being able to to talk about that and share that and just like you know it's just like grab somebody out of the crowd and be able to help them it's really very inspiring to me that's very cool Barry about you mine's overall the energy you know um uh I've been in Cloud for a long time and you know you know been at been at shows like this um this show had a ton of energy and what I mean by that is um

you know people aren't there to collect Chach keys and stick well maybe some people want stickers I don't want stickers um the I'd say you know the the the meetings we had and and the people that we interacted with in all seriousness um people were there to learn um they were there to um solve problems and uh build new things those were the conversations um and so it just made it really valuable um you know spending 4 days all day you know someplace um is disruptive for every company that goes there um and so it has to be productive and it was um so that

was my favorite favorite thing about it it was very much energy around Builders very cool Colin oh man uh from a business perspective uh seeing us be a part of the opening keynote with Thomas um you know multiple times in terms of some of the stuff we've built together with Google for past two years and the past year together um even you know in a number of ways that was incredible um seeing our logo up on the Google distributed Cloud announcement with Sachin Gupta was also awesome following right after that um because again that's rare err for a company of our size and just an

example of our partnership um I think the coolest thing I saw was Finding customers that had used our stuff in very significant ways without us having to do whole lot with it and that the Google teams took our infrastructure Solutions and solved a big problem for a big customer um and and I think back to our friends uh Annie and Wyatt who uh presented the HPC session uh with two very large customers uh using that toolkit um I mean that's just that just makes your heart Happy like you're like wait a second like we put something out there it just gets released I mean these

were just G8 two weeks before next right and then they're on stage talking about how you know how much more efficient performant and uh how it's solving some critical business needs I mean that's amazing right and so I think about that as just you know kind of where there's smoke there's fire and so if that's you know a sample size of two but they're very significant there's probably a whole lot more uh that we didn't get a chance to reach out to so we're excited to hear more of those stories absolutely it's fantastic what was your mine I had a lot uh first of all

seeing everybody from ciq I love getting to see you guys in person it's always fun it's always GNA be a favorite of mine hearing the different stories from customers that that we've talked to maybe on the phone we maybe never actually met in person several of those coming by a lot it's also fun to see the repeats like we've known you guys for since I've been here three years it's always fun to run across somebody you haven't seen in a couple years or you see it every event that show up and they come specifically to talk to you love those those are fun but I

I think getting into the new spaces um hearing the stories at the one event that we held about somebody setting a consumption record on Google Cloud those stories are amazing it just it's mind-blowing what people are doing with Google cloud and how it's growing but some of the numbers are staggering of just glad to be a part of it it's fun all of it big time so I guess this is kind of you know that that age-old question right like had a huge next uh we've heard a lot of great stories it's so great to see so many customers and partners what about next time

what's ahead what's the future look what's next what's next for next what's next yeah literally 361 days away but who's count Not Gon think about that right now BR get shoes early that's the that's the oh my god seriously do you guys remember the love connection remember that show where he would go to commercial he'd be like he's all two and two be right back at you no maybe before Dave's time I think the biggest thing for me is like this is the smallest forever going to be I mean that's that's really it like think about what happened last week all the announcements all the

customers all the partners and now give us a Runway of 12 months to show up at the next one since it's going to be the same week right Barry I think that's what they said it will it will be the same I think it'll be exciting to show up with um just a bunch of um of uh super cool and Innovative use cases uh customers across different industries that we'll be able to document with with Google um that'll be fun to show up next year with those new stories new stories love new stories it's fantastic well guys we're getting close on time we appreciate you

being here it's good to see you again even though it's only been like five days glad everybody's recovered Rose yep close it out take us home take us home I was thinking about like how you do the two and two because remember it was like two minutes and two seconds that was how long the commercials were right so I was thinking about like okay so if we're going to be back next year at Google next same time same place what what did you say 361 36 something something like back at you yeah all right you guys we have way too much fun over here so

we would love to see you also if you have like a a um webinar topic idea uh that you really want us to talk about because CQ like we're doing a lot of things man I mean today we were talking about Google next talking about optimized images on Google we're talking about Ai and and enabling these Ai workloads and all these really cool things that we're doing sometimes we're talking about HPC stuff and there's a little you know connection there sometimes that those two seemingly separate worlds come together we got werewolf Ascender Rocky aper like we are all over the place doing cool stuff so

you have an idea let us know we would love to bring on some experts talk about it answer all of your questions and then if things are coming up and you're not watching us live right now but you're watching later and you have a question just pop it into the chat right there you can reach out to us at C iq.com anything in there where you like you in a message you can ask us stuff it comes to us um typically to me but to to us in on the team and we'll definitely get back to you so thank you so much for being here

congratulations again Richard Alaway because we are at 1,000 subscribers thank you so much for watching for subscribing for being here and congratulations on winning the backpack and we will see you here next week same time same place bye guys thanks everybody um [Music]
